چکیده

Manuscript received: 03.05.17; Revision accepted: 08.08.17 We describe the evolution of subinternal limiting membrane (ILM) hemorrhage associated with anemic retinopathy on fundus autofluorescence (FAF) and spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT). A 27-year-old male with megaloblastic anemia complained of defective vision in the right eye (RE). Fundus examination revealed multiple Roth spots bilaterally suggestive of anemic retinopathy. Preretinal hemorrhage was seen over the fovea and temporally in the RE which appeared hypoautofluorescent on FAF and as hyperreflective echoes beneath an elevated ILM on OCT. Hemorrhages resolved following treatment with blood transfusion, folate, and Vitamin B12 supplements. Sub-ILM hemorrhage transformed into a yellow spot at macula which was hyperautofluorescent on FAF and hyperreflective on OCT and then resolved leaving a small sub-ILM hyporeflective cavity. Recent sub-ILM hemorrhage is hypoautofluorescent as fresh blood has no autofluorescence while altered blood is hyperautofluorescent due to bilirubin in the degraded heme which is an endogenous fluorophore.

Valsalva Retinopathy Associated with Sexual Activity

A 54-year-old healthy male presented complaining of sudden loss of vision in the right eye. Initial visual acuity was counting fingers. The patient's acute vision loss developed after sexual activity. Color fundus photos and fluorescein angiography were performed showing a large subinternal limiting membrane hemorrhage in the macular area. A 23-gauge sutureless pars plana vitrectomy with brilli...

Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography findings of subinternal limiting membrane hemorrhage in the macula before and after Nd:YAG laser treatment

We reported the spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) findings of a subinternal limiting membrane hemorrhage in the macula in one patient with Valsalva retinopathy and in one patient with macroaneurysm before and after neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser membranotomy. Within 1 week, the Nd:YAG laser treatment facilitated rapid absorption of the hemorrhage in b...

Solar Retinopathy: A Multimodal Analysis

Purpose. Solar retinopathy is a rare clinical disturbance, for which spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) findings are not always consistent. We report on two cases of solar retinopathy and discuss its differential diagnosis. Methods. This is an observational case study. Results. A 12-year-old female was referred to ophthalmology for bilateral scotoma. Visual acuity was 20/50 i...

SD-OCT and autofluorescence characteristics of autoimmune retinopathy.

AIMS To report abnormal fundus hyperautofluorescence (hyper-AF) and loss of outer retinal layers by spectral domain optical coherence tomography in patients with autoimmune retinopathy (AIR). METHODS Retrospective, observational case series of 14 eyes of 7 patients diagnosed with an AIR for whom colour fundus photographs, fundus AF images and spectral domain optical coherence tomograms (SD-OC...

Persistent unsealed internal limiting membrane after Nd:YAG laser treatment for valsalva retinopathy

BACKGROUND To report a long-term complication of unsealed and un-reattached internal limiting membrane in Valsalva retinopathy after neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser membranotomy. CASE PRESENTATION A 41-year-old man presenting with a massive premacular hemorrhage due to Valsalva retinopathy underwent Nd:YAG laser membranotomy. During follow-up, best-corrected visual acu...
